This is the latest of what is occurring in Toronto this week.
Her mother traded her for sex with grown men in exchange for drugs and money and gave her crack cocaine, Toronto police allege, but a now 12-year-old developmentally challenged girl is recovering from her ordeal after being rescued from a flop-house.
“It’s despicable when you look at the vulnerability of this girl,” Toronto police Supt. Ron Taverner said yesterday.
“It’s something I don’t think many of us have seen in policing and many of us in the community are quite frankly outraged.
“This shouldn’t happen in our society.”
Detectives said the investigation was one of the worst they have seen involving children, sex and drugs.
The victim’s mother, 42, was arrested Wednesday and charged with corrupting a child and had a bail hearing yesterday. Six men — whose ages range from 19 to 55 — have been charged with a string of sex-related offences involving the girl.
Up to four other men could be charged if police can identify and find them.“This 12-year-old girl is scarred for life,” Taverner said.
You know what makes me sick about this? The fact that the detectives said “this shouldn’t happen in our society.” Are they implying that it can occur elsewhere?
For those of you that don’t know, this sort of thing occurs everyday and is widely accepted around the world. The child sex trade is a profitable industry because the workers aren’t paid well or at all and the people paying will pay well.
It pains me to think that as I write this, a girl is being exploited and raped.
It’s ok though; I quickly come to my senses and remind myself that I live in Canada where we look out for our own. What am I going to do about it anyway, the sex trade is over there and its their problem, right?
